Italian regulator confirms new rules for bonuses and odds errors

The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM), which oversees gambling regulation in Italy, has confirmed new rules for bonus management that took effect from June 1.

These changes introduce new legislative criteria regarding the use of bonuses, terms and conditions, payment methods, and how bonuses are treated for tax purposes.

Since the regulated market launched in 2006, operators have requested these changes due to the lack of clarity on how to calculate the cost of bonus rewards. Now, tax calculations will consider both the applied bonus and any stakes placed by the player to determine the amounts wagered and the winnings paid out.

Additionally, the ADM is establishing a formal process to address palpable errors, enabling systematic corrections without requiring legal action. This change was prompted by disputes between bookmakers and customers.

Bookmakers can now submit correction requests for palpable errors through a regulated application system, providing details of the contested odds. If the request is approved, the odds will be recalculated based on the market average, using the national tote as a reference.
